Giant Mole Burrow

By WASABIISOFT

One page dungeon contest 2022

5E, 1st-2nd level.

Premise: Two giant moles have created a massive burrow to explore.

What do we get here?

A single page gives us a simple map and a new monster.

 Usability/formatting

Despite being super bare bones this is pretty well done. If you want a simple wilderness encounter you can drop into a campaign this would work. What this is not is a fleshed out adventure or dungeon so if you can take it on those terms you will get something out of it.

I like the art and the nice little card you get with the monster's stats on one side and a picture on the other.

There is not a lot to say about this one because there is not a lot to it.

Portability

As long as giant moles seem reasonable in your world you could run this.

Recommendation

This is something you would pull out as a result on a random encounter table rather than as a full fledged adventure to run. As a random table entry it works well in my opinion.

Kolossus

By James Hutt, Brian Shutter and Mustafa Bekir

One page dungeon contest 2022

No system or level given.

Premise: Pirates have taken over massive statue and are going to use it's death ray to destroy the city.

What do we get here?

A single page gives 8 keyed locations.

 Usability/formatting

Not so much a dungeon, more a bunch of scenes strung together for you to railroad through. This is very much one of those 5E plot adventures rather than a dungeon/situation to explore.  If you look at Gus L's adventure Hel Crow's Final Rest that is how you set up a situation rather than a railroad and what the writers should have gone for here.

Mustafa Bekir's art is the stand out piece of this adventure, something I would be looking to reuse rather than run as is.

Just lacks in factions, treasure, player agency and stuff to poke around with really.

Portability

Works best in a Greek style setting although you can put in any port city I expect.

Recommendation

Use the art, rework the rest.

Guard Duty

By Hunter Charest (writing) & Obliesk (art)

One page dungeon contest 2022

No system or level given.

Premise: The party has been hired as guards for a merchant.

What do we get here?

A single page gives 7 keyed locations.

 Usability/formatting

I really like the NPC art that comes with this adventure, it is the best part by a long way.

The adventure itself is a few generic scenes you have to string together yourself to make something from. In my opinion it is just not cohesive enough.

This could work as the framework for an adventure but I would not run as is. You will have to do some expanding to get things to work. There also does not appear to be a huge amount of choice open to the players either.

Portability

Any forest type area should be fine for dropping this adventure into.

Recommendation

No, I expect you could pull something out of it if you really tried though. The NPC art is definitely worth recycling.

The Great Faerie Revolution

By Patryk Ofat (MirisDor)

One page dungeon contest 2022

No system or level given.

Premise: Lord fey, known as the Star Watcher, has disappeared. His former servants sparked a revolution, and the dimension itself began to seep into the mortal world. In the morning, the heroes discover that the inn in which they were staying accidentally fell into the magic realm.

What do we get here?

A single page gives 6 keyed locations.

 Usability/formatting

I would say this is a pretty complete adventure, it has magic times, factions and a good map to explore. This is definitely a situation you can drop your players into and see who things shake out.

About all that is missing is some evocative descriptions for locations however you should be able to tease that out yourself from the set up. You have to sacrifice something in a one pager like this. Otherwise the writing does a good job of giving you all the information need as you need it.

Portability

As long as you do not mind opening your campaign up to other planes you can drop this adventure on any unsuspecting in your players decide to spend the night in.

Recommendation

Definitely something you can use and enjoy with a minimum amount of work. A bit surprised this did not get an honourable mention or similar in the contest as it has bags of potential for weird fae nonsense to occur.

Minotaur (new class)

In my homebrew world minotaurs are slavers and pirates who believe it is the right of the strong to dominate the weak. The demi-goddess Vyssini holds sway over minotaur culture, giving divine blessings to those who grow strong enough to make their mark on the world.

The class below reflects my own take on minotaurs and fits in with the way they are represented within my world. Powerful warriors, minotaurs rarely live long lives given their preference for violence.

Minotaur

Requirements: Minimum CON 9

Prime requisite: STR

Hit Dice: 1d10

Maximum level: 8

Armour: Any, including shields

Weapons: Any

Languages: Alignment, Common, Minotaur

Alignment

Minotaurs may only be of chaotic alignment.

Divine Blessing

At 3rd and 6th levels minotaurs gain a divine blessing from their deity. Roll a D8 and consult the table below to discover the blessing received.

Duplicate blessings: May be re-rolled if desired.

Deity disfavour:  Minotaurs must be faithful to the tenets of their alignment. Minotaurs who fall from favour with their deity lose and blessings and may incur further penalties.

Navigation

Due to their expertise with sea travel, minotaurs count as navigators and only get lost on the open sea on a 1-in-6.

Unarmed Combat

In unarmed combat minotaur use their horns to do D6 damage.

 Stronghold

Any time a minotaur wishes (and has sufficient money) they may build or attempt to take over an existing stronghold. Other minotaurs will challenge the character for control of their stronghold any time they believe the ruler has shown weakness.

The Hatch

By James Rosario & 20 Eyes Gaming

One page dungeon contest 2022

No system or level given.

Premise: An upstart settlement is in need of adventurers to explore the caverns beneath a mysterious stone hatch in the forest floor.

What do we get here?

A single page gives  keyed locations in a dungeon.

 Usability/formatting

In my opinion there is a lot to like here. By no means is this perfect but it is on the road to being something really decent.

The writing could do with a re-write, it is most of the way there it just needs some padding removed and information re-ordered occasionally. It is a much better effort than the vast majority of entries in the one page dungeon contest when it comes to trying to be both evocative and provide the information the referee needs to run the adventure.

I like the art of the map even if the dungeon is pretty linear. There some things to interact with and some decent rooms. May be a few more hints of what is to come would have been useful as well as a few more combat encounters on the way down.

The ending is a nice little horror switch up, it just needs more foreshadowing to really go off with a bang.

Portability

This adventure is nudging towards dark fantasy or horror so keep that in mind before you plop it down to run.

Recommendation

You could probably run as is, I'd want to flesh it out a bit more particularly the villager NPCs given their later role in the adventure. Has the potential to be pretty nice little adventure or hex filler.

The 4x5 Dungeon

By Vance Atkins

One page dungeon contest 2022

No system or level given.

Premise: You're an awesome GM, you can justify the existence of a cavern full of random traps, a weird fountain, and occupied by a dragon and some floating skulls guarding a pretty rock.

What do we get here?

A single page gives 5 keyed locations in a dungeon with 4 different options for each location.

 Usability/formatting

I really don't like these randomly generated dungeons. What I want is one good dungeon I can use not a bunch of piece I have to figure out how to put together.

Case in point there are few nicely written entries in the table here, it would be much better to string them together into something cohesive than all the other filler options we have here. The 5 room dungeon has a very specific role for each room which the randomness of this table does away with.

The information needed to wrong the adventure is pretty well condensed down into the small table entries it is just you might get a terribly lopsided dungeon leaving it all up to chance.

Portability

Sure, it's all random and you're an awesome GM just make up as you go along. Don't expect anyone to do anything for you.

Recommendation

If you are going to make an adventure make an adventure, don't do this.
