Hermit dwarfs with great affinity for the natural stone environments underground. They are the druids of the dwarf people.
This is first draft material and still requires a spell list and spells to go with the class.
Stonekin
Requirements: Minimum CON 9
Prime requisite: STR and WIS
Hit Dice: 1d6
Maximum level: 10
Armour: Leather, wooden shields
Weapons: Small or normal sized clubs, staffs and slings
Languages: Alignment, Common, Dwarvish
Prime requisites: A stonekin with at least 13 STR and WIS gains a 5% bonus to experience. A stonekin with at least 13 STR and at least 16 WIS gains a 10% bonus.
Combat
Stone kind do not use metal armour or shields and may only fight using clubs, staffs or slings.
Divine Magic
Holy symbol: A stonekin must carry a holy symbol, a stone of importance to the character.
Deity disfavour: Stonekin must be faithful to the tenets of their alignment, clergy, and religion. Stonekin who fall from favour with their deity may incur penalties.
Magical research: A stonekin of any level may spend time and money on magical research. This allows them to create new spells or other magical effects associated with their deity. When a stonekin reaches 8th level, they are also able to create magic items.
Spell casting: The level progression table (below) shows the number of spells a stonekin may memorize, based on their experience level. The list of spells available to stonekin is found below.
Using magic items: As spell casters, stonekin can use magic scrolls of spells on their spell list. They can also use items that may only be used by divine spell casters (e.g. some magic staves).
Hiding
When in an environment of natural stone a stonekin may hide with a 90% chance of success.
Identification
Stonekin can identify all types of stone and minerals as well as all plants and animals that roam the world below.
Infravision
Dwarves have infravision to 60’
Languages
Stonekin speak a secret language of their order, the language is similar enough to the secret language of druids to be able to communicate basic concepts between speakers of the two secret languages.
Listening at Doors
Dwarves have a 2-in-6 chance of hearing noises.
Pass Without Trace
From 3rd level stonekin can pass through environments of natural stone without leaving a trace. The character can move through rocky areas without impediment.
Shape Change
Upon reaching 7th level, a stonekin gains the ability to change into an 8HD earth elemental once a day.
Reaching 8th Level and Above
There can be only eight stonekin of 8th level, when a stonekin has enough experience points to reach 8th level they must challenge and defeat an existing 8th level stonekin. Similarly there can only be three 9th level stonekin and one 10th level stonekin.
Stonekin who reach 8th level or above may found a stronghold in an environment of natural stone.
